"At 31, I was a bit concerned about my employability," says legal secretary Lambroulla Pantelli.

"I had been working as an assistant in a pharmacy since leaving school and I was conscious that time was passing me by, but when you're working full time, how do you break out?"

Although Lambroulla admits she was very nervous about changing careers, she "plucked up the courage" to investigate how to make it happen.

Lambroulla decided to aim high and become a fully qualified legal secretary. The problem was that she could only study on her day off.

Her search for a solution led her to Pitman Training London.

"Pitman Training's High Holborn centre is open until 8:00 most nights and all day Saturday so they were the obvious choice from that point of view."

At first, Lambroulla found the course hard going and learning to touch type in particular:

"It required a lot of practise to achieve the necessary typing speed and maintaining my accuracy on legal documents and letters was hard at first!" confirms Lambroulla.

But she stuck at it and found that because "you work individually and at your own pace, you don't feel pressurised in any way."

As her confidence grew and her skills increased, Lambroulla began to apply for legal secretarial jobs.

She says she found the job advertisement board in the training centre was a good source of vacancies and enjoyed the help of the Pitman Training tutors who helped her put together her CV.

"I had never had a CV before, so the tutors' help in structuring the layout was invaluable."

"Then one of the tutors found a vacancy in a West End legal firm and encouraged me to apply for it."

"We role played the interview before I went and within days, I'd been accepted, before I'd even gained my Diploma!"

"I enjoy the responsibility of my job and it's great to be able to draw on all the practical knowledge I gained from the Diploma," says Lambroulla.

"Since I enrolled at Pitman Training, it made me feel that it is never too late to begin a new career."
