dewunmi Ilori just didn't know which career would suit her. She couldn't decide whether to go for a secretarial, IT or HR career.
And to complicate matters further, Adewunmi's husband thought she might enjoy a career in the NHS!
So when a friend's mother mentioned how much she'd enjoyed studying a secretary course with Pitman Training in the 1960's, Adewunmi turned to the Course Advisors at our High Holborn training centre for advice.
"The problem is that I'm very ambitious and want to excel at everything. So sometimes it's hard to have to focus on just one area." "So when I spoke to Sylwia at Pitman Training, I was really pleased that she was able to offer me a broad range of options tailored just for me."
"Sylwia quizzed me about my interests, my ambitions and even my plans for the distant future before offering me a number of clear career paths."
Even we were surprised when Adewunmi proclaimed that she wanted to follow all the paths we suggested!
She chose to study for our Executive PA Diploma with legal
We were concerned that it was too much for a student to take on but Adewunmi explains:
I knew I could do it if I came in diligently and worked really hard."
"I started coming in every day and I found the workbooks and training materials were really good - clear and easy to follow."
"The trainers have been very good too. They're there to help at any time."
"I quickly got my typing speed up to 45 wpm and now I'm aiming for 70 wpm.
And I've achieved lots of distinctions in my exams, so that's kept me very motivated."
Adewunmi's ambition means that she has already found a job using her new skills.
After a rigorous selection process, she has been appointed Recruitment Officer at Guys & St Thomas' Hospital.
"It was because I was so confident in my ability following the training that I was able to get the job," says Adewunmi."
"At the selection day, I used what I had learned on Pitman Training's "Effective Business Communication" course as well as "Get Into Personnel."
And my proof-reading and letter layout skills were what clinched it for me."
